Format

Canadian Open Championship

Rounds: 9.

One game per day.

Rated by the Chess Federation of Canada (CFC).

CFC Membership is required, but may be substituted for with a Tournament Playing Fee.

Swiss system.

Regular pairings (no acceleration or modification).

3 Sections:

  • OpenWorld Chess Federation (FIDE) - Open Section only rated by the World Chess Federation (FIDE)
  • Under 2000
  • Under 1600

Time control: 40 moves/90 minutes, then game/30 minutes, plus 30 second increments from move 1.

Chess boards and pieces provided; please bring your own clock.

Maximum of two half-point byes available in rounds 1-6, if requested in advance of the tournament (by June 30).

Prize fund

  • $30,000 based on 300 entries.
  • Large first prize in each section.
