GM Bator Sambuev (RUS) topped the 118 player field to defend his title and win the 64th Ontario Open Championship, held in Toronto, May 22-24, with a score of 5/6. 2nd place with 4.5 points in the FIDE rated Open Section was shared by IMs David Cummings (Toronto), Nikolay Noritsyn (Richmond Hill) and Bryan Smith (USA). Derick Twesigye (Toronto) won the Under 2000 Section and Qiang Li (Toronto) won the Under 1600 Section, each with 5.5.
